Summer Holiday in North Wales

Hi guys,
This week I thought I would bring to you a little round up of what me and my family got up to in the summer holidays. The children are back to school now, so I have finally had the opportunity to write about our little getaway. This year, as I am quite heavily pregnant, we decided to go on holiday in the UK instead of abroad and we picked Wales as we absolutely love it there. One place we hadn't visited before was North Wales, so when we heard good reviews about the Haven based there, we decided to book it and give it a go.
We stayed at the Presthaven Beach Resort in Prestatyn, North Wales. It's a great location as it is literally located on Prestatyn Beach. They have a variety of caravans and static homes to suit all budgets, however we opted for the Platinum with decking and didn't mind spending a little extra as it wasn't going to be as expensive as if we had gone abroad. The resort has so many facilities including an indoor heated pool, soft play, paint pottery, mini golf, an aerial adventure course, playgrounds all on site, some of which are included in the price of the holiday and some of which you have to pay extra for. There are also restaurants and a mini supermarket on site, so basically everything you need to keep the kids busy and there is always evening entertainment at the main centre. I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay for a UK break.

Prestatyn beach itself wasn't the best beach to be completely honest as even though there is direct access from the resort it is still quite a walk and the beach itself is really long. It probably took us a good 20 mins once we were on the beach to reach the sea so bear this in mind. We only actually went to this beach once and much preferred other beaches near by like Talacre (10 mins away). Rhyl is also close by (20 mins away) and our favourite place we visited was Llandudno (40 minutes away). A beautiful beach town which is so picturesque. Most of the beach is a pebble beach but they have a whole section which is purely sand and even had free games and activities put on for the kids. The pier is just as you would imagine with arcades, fish and chips, candy floss and fresh donuts being sold. If you get a chance, Llandudno is also the home of the Great Orme which is large limestone headland which hosts amazing views and is definitely worth driving up to. Cable cars also run the length of the Great Orme, however if it is too windy they don't. Still worth going up there for the views though!

If you are looking for something a little closer to the resort there is still lots to do. Just a 10 minute drive away is Dyserth Waterfall which is a beautiful waterfall in the middle of the village. You can also climb to the top and around the area and there are beautiful views and a lovely atmosphere. There is an ice cream shop and picnic area are located at the bottom so you could definitely make an afternoon of it.
We also visited the ruins Rhuddlan Castle which was about 15 minutes away from the resort. The girls might have loved this the most and their imagination really came out to play. They had so many questions and were really intrigued by the history. They found it fascinating comparing how it once looked to now. The views again were also stunning as stairs have been created so you can reach the top of the towers that are still standing and it was really beautiful to just stand there and take it all in. There are so many more castles nearby too so definitely worth visiting.

All in all we stayed for four nights and it was a fantastic holiday which will not be forgotten. It was our last little break as a family of four before the new addition to the family arrives and we really made the most of it. We made lovely memories there and I honestly felt just as relaxed as if we had been on holiday abroad. We were so lucky with the weather as it only rained one day even though it was supposed to be a complete wash out! Wales really does have a special place in our hearts and I can't wait to explore more.
Have you been to Wales before? Give me your recommendations!
